Andy Juniper

We are sorry you are leaving”

It is with great regret that Andy Juniper, our enthusiastic and very patient under 8/7/6 's coach, has decided to call it a day.

Andy coached our youngest group last season at the playing fields in Lower Beeding most Saturday morning's, weather permitting.

One father said to me …..”Andy is an extraordinary bloke; it's not easy keeping the attention of ten or twelve small boys for five minutes let alone an hour. Last season I watched him transform total chaos into something resembling football. Some of the older boys in the group were beginning to show some real talent. It is a great shame he has decided to step down, he will be greatly missed”.

Yes Andy, I think that is a great tribute to you and your love of the game.

Lower Beeding JFC thanks you for a great contribution to the continuing success of the Club.

More Coaching News and a Plea for Help!

Paul Martin (an ex Brighton hopeful) has kindly agreed to take on the task of developing our Under 8 capabilities. He will begin coaching this age group from Saturday 30 th Sept.

You can e-mail Paul at fourmartins@btinternet.com

Paul's son, Lachlan , joined the Club this year in the Under 7's and will join the Under8's once things get moving over the next few weeks.

If you know of any young lads or lassies looking to play at this level please let us know as soon as possible To find out more (training times, fixture etc) please contact James Woodlock (acting manager Under 8's) at jwoodlock@btinternet.com .

To maintain the vitality of the Club it is enormously important to attract and retain boys and girls from the earliest of ages .

We are now desperately looking for volunteers to step forward to take over the coaching of the youngest age groups – the U7/6'S. It could be short term /long term or shared between people. It can be a very rewarding experience and great fun too!

Please contact James Woodlock (Club Secretary) by email jwoodlock@btinternet.com if you are

interested in helping in any way or know of someone else that might be willing to spare an hour or so each week.

Our new web site will be up and running shortly! We will keep you posted!

6 – A – Side Football Tournament

Saturday 2nd September - 2006

A big thanks to Clive Pyzer who organised the recent U10's / U9's football tournament at our home ground in Lower Beeding .

Thanks also to all of you that helped on the day. Without the support of committee member, coaches, parents and friends giving up their time, an event such as this wouldn't be possible.

Despite the inclement weather, the boys played their socks off!

Clive's Under 10 squad played some exciting matches, which culminated in the A team reaching a dramatic final show down with the brave Brockham Badgers.

Unfortunately in the end, Lower Beeding Lions were pipped at the post by a 2-1 victory to the Badgers.

Paul Daymond's under 9 squad also played well, but were defeated by St. Pauls Panthers in the semi-final, 3-1

Great effort to all those that took part!

We had a lot of positive feedback from this event and the children were enthusiastic and had an enjoyable day.

Below is an e-mail from the coach of the winning U9 team

Clive

‘Just a quick note to thank you and your colleagues for the excellent tournament, it had a lovely friendly atmosphere and all our players and parents really enjoyed it.  The fact that we won our first ever trophy may also added to our enjoyment! My son Alex has gone to bed with his trophy tonight - they were all chuffed to bits.'

UNDER 9'S TEAM REPORT

by Paul Daymond – U9'S Coach

Our first match saw us up against Storrington Vipers, they scored quickly but we fought back with Luke Williams scoring his first goal for the club.

Unfortunately we could not hold on to the draw, with the Vipers scoring a scorcher beating us 2-1.

Next came Horsham Crusaders B and B stood for best this time, with the result ending 3-0.

This match was followed by Crusaders A and with us both sharing bottom spot it was a must win game for us to really stand a chance of going through.

As the match proceeded it was clear the chaps were back in the groove with chance after chance being created, but we just could not get the ball over the line.

The match finishing 0-0.

It now came down to stats with us needing Crusaders B to do us a favour and beat their A side by as many goals as possible and a 2-0 win put us in with a shout.

The Panthers scored quickly making the lions task a difficult one.

We hung on, only for the Panthers to score again.

However we dug in with a nail biting finish, with Luke make a cracking save from hand to foot, to post and out. The whistle blew and a pitch invasion followed!!!!

The Semi drew us against Panther's again but confidence was high and we really got among them.

A great cross from Nicolas saw Samuel volley us into the lead. We hung onto this lead for some time and created more chances, only for the proud Panthers to go and equalize and quickly take the lead. We threw everyone forwards for the last minutes but were caught on the counter 1-3 and we were out.

Nice to get beaten by the eventual winners, who beat Vipers 4-1

All the lads really enjoyed themselves and they are now all fired up for the new season!
