Lower Beeding Lions Awards/Fun Day
With a new venue closer to home, where some of our age
groups train and play, Cowfold Recreation ground was this
year’s setting for our football club’s Awards and Fun Day
held on Saturday 12th June, 2010.
Once again, we were fortunate to be able to enjoy the June sunshine and the friendly atmosphere of the club also shone through, with a great team effort from our committee, coaches, and parents that volunteered their services, as well as a variety of activities for the children to keep them entertained, helping to make it an enjoyable and relaxed family day.
The schedule of events kicked off with the club’s Annual General Meeting, where our committee members were formally elected.
The committee remains the same, apart from Roy Wicking who has replaced Andy Eggleden as Vice Chairman, and in due course Gill Woodlock will be stepping down as Registration Secretary and Andrea Thurgar will be taking her place.
We had a summary of the clubs finances from our treasurer, Bohdana and then the coaches from each age group presented their awards for individual achievements and team efforts. Following this, prizes were handed out to winners of the days games, such as Beat the Goalie, Cross Bar Challenge etc.
Afterwards there was a grand raffle, with some super prizes.
Thank you very much to everyone for all your generous donations, but especially to James and Gill Woodlock for the £50 prize and the beautiful designer bags kindly donated by one of our parent’s,
Jane Hill of Ollie&Nic www.ollieandnic.com
Special thanks to the local businesses that also supported us with their donations:
The Black Horse Inn, Nuthurst, www.theblackhorseinn.com
Cowfold Post Office and The Co-op, Cowfold.
The day culminated in a spectacle to behold, The Parents and Coaches versus the U14’s/U13’s Match! The boys managed what England haven’t been able to do lately, and from 3-0 down at half time ran
out 4-3 as worthy winners. The most memorable moment was U10’s coach, Craig, conceding an own goal at full stretch to deny a tiring parents team from hanging on to a draw.
All of this year’s winners from each age group are shown below and they are also listed on our HALL OF FAME page on the the Lower Beeding Lions website, with winners past and present, plus hopefully there will also be some photos in our PHOTO GALLERY soon! If anyone has any photos, please e-mail them to me at sam.norgate@virgin.net
Apart from our annual Mini-soccer tournament, the Awards Day is, at present, our only other fundraising event and we are pleased to announce that our Awards and Fun Day made a profit of £561.42, which
will be invested back into the club to purchase kit, equipment etc.
